Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do if the sliding door is on the outside?
DoorMate will not work on an outside slider.
How large a door will it open?
There is virtually no limit to the size of door that
DoorMate will operate on, however, the maximum length of travel is 32",
enough for any wheelchair to pass through. In practice, we do not
recommend using the product on greater than a 36" wide door, because of the
weight of a wider door.
Is it UL approved?
Yes. DoorMate is both UL and CUL approved.
How do I get back in if the power is out?
DoorMate runs on a heavy duty
battery, similar to those used in emergency lighting systems. It will keep
DoorMate powered for several hours during your blackout.
How long is it guaranteed for?
All registered DoorMates are guaranteed for one year from
date of purchase.
How long does it take to install?
A first time install is usually done in about an hour or
a pro install in 20 or so minutes.
Does it run on a chain?
No, DoorMate's security enhanced features are a result of
a solid steel threaded screw drive. This system helps prevent the door from
being both lifted out of the track or forced open.
Can I work the door manually?
DoorMate comes with a quick release latch.
How long does the battery last?
We recommend the battery be replaced once a year.
What do I do with my screen door?
Since DoorMate closes and locks your door with every use,
you can slide your screen door to the other side.
What is the longest DoorMate will stay open without closing
automatically?
DoorMate offers a choice of automatic closing times from
0 seconds to 30 seconds, or it can be set to stay open independently.
Is there a motion sensor for it?
DoorMate is not available with a motion sensor. Unlike
commercial door operators, motion sensors would be a disruption in the home
every time someone walked by the door.
Do I still need to lock my door?
One can always lock the door, however, this will disable
DoorMate.
What colors does it come in?
White
Does it need any maintenance or service?
DoorMate needs no regular maintenance.
Does it matter if my slider is on the right or the left?
Yes there are two models available for right or left.
What happens if it closes on someone?
DoorMate's powerful onboard microprocessor senses
stoppage in either direction and will back off the door.
Can I tell if some is coming into my home if I'm upstairs?
Yes, DoorMate can be programmed to beep while in
operation.
Will DoorMate alert me if there is a guest at my back door?
Yes, when DoorMate is in secure mode, pressing the
outside access remote will cause DoorMate's internal bell to activate.
What do I do if I have double sliders?
In some very cold climates some doors with double sliders
are installed. We suggest using only the first door though out the warm
patio season and closing the second door manually during the winter months.
Does it get in the way of my blinds?
DoorMate's low profile design tucks neatly behind most
blinds. Most valences are designed to extend your blinds out from the wall
if extra space is needed.
Can I take the DoorMate system with me if I move to another house?
Yes, DoorMate can be removed and moved when you move.
Can the door be left open?
Yes, DoorMate can be programmed to allow the door to stay
open.
Can it be mounted above the door?
No, because patio doors slide on bottom mounted wheels,
top mounting the DoorMate would cause the door to rock or vibrate.
Do I need to give out the PIN number to guests to come into my home
using the numeric keypad?
No, when DoorMate is in unsecured mode, pressing the "#"
key will allow your guests unrestricted access.
Does my garage door remote work on DoorMate?
No, DoorMate operates on a different frequency than most
garage door openers.
When using the Pet Prox can someone steal my dog to get in my house?
No, when DoorMate is in restricted mode or if Pet Prox's
receiver is turned off, the Keyless Pet Tags will not operate the door.
What do I do if I have more than one pet?
Pet Prox is supplied with two Keyless Pet Tags and others
are available separately.
How does my pet get back inside?
Pet Prox's receiver senses your pet on both sides of the
door.
What happens if my dog lies down beside the door?
With Pet Prox's sensitivity adjustment your pet can
lie down next to the sliding door without continuous activation.
Will my dog run in and out all day long?
Most pets acclimatize to the freedom and will go in
and out less frequently as time goes on.
