Overview (This product is sometimes listed as: Olympus DS 3000, DS-3000, DS3000 and has been replaced in the Olympus product line by the Olympus DS 4000 or DS-4000 or DS4000 and more recently by the Olympus DS 5000 or DS-5000 or DS5000.)

This recorder is no longer being manufactured - a few factory-refurbished units still available. If you are using these products already, you may want additional units. The current Olympus business dictation flagship product is the Olympus DS-5000.

The Olympus DS-3000 Digital Recorder is a mobile solution that was the premier product in the Olympus Digital Recorder "Professional" line until the announcement of the DS-4000 Digital Recorder and more recently the DS-5000.

Mobile recorders allow users to create reports, correspondence, e-mail, and more - virtually anywhere. Then just plug the recorder into your computer using the included cable, click "Transcribe", and your words are transcribed immediately onto your screen and into your document.

You don't have to carry a laptop or look at a screen while you are entering information. There are no tapes to transcribe, and no redundant keyboarding of handwritten notes. With the Olympus DS-3000 Digital Recorder you can create text almost anywhere, anytime. You can also save audio clips or dictation as .wav files.

We still have a few of these recorders available. You might want one, if you have standardized on this recorder in your office and need another that will work interchangeably with your existing recorders, media and transcription software. Otherwise, you will want to consider the current Olympus flagship product -- the DS-4000 Digital Recorder

Recording Capacity:

	Removable SmartMedia Digital Recorder holds hours of high-quality DSS audio (using removable SmartMedia cards)
	Includes two (2) 16MB SmartMedia cards for more than five hours of recording time on each so you can keep recording on one card while handing the other off to a transcriptionist for greater efficiency (Additional memory cards can be purchased. See below.)

Organize your dictation:

	Store your recordings in up to three separate folders (199 messages per folder). Folders can be assigned names of up to eight characters
	Store up to 10 different Author IDs in the recorder. Perfect for sharing recorders between users
	Store up to 10 different Work Types in the recorder. Great for specifying the exact type of dictation to transcription services

	LCD screen displays message number, a real-time counter, remaining recording time, current time and date and operating mode
	Editing capability allows easy overwrite, partial erase and insert

Mic/Speaker/Jacks:
The recorder has a built-in microphone and speaker, as well as auxiliary jacks for an external mic and headset (sold separately). If you need to use the recorder in a noisy environment or want to improve accuracy, any microphone can be plugged into the microphone jack. Olympus also makes available the ME-14 microphone

Speech Recognition Setup:
Users must create a recorder-specific voice file.

	Any system capable of running Dragon NaturallySpeaking is capable of using the recorder. Recorder input is supported in Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional, Legal, Medical, Public Safety or Preferred -- version 3.0 or greater.
	Available USB port is required. Cable is included.

Memory Cards: As discussed above, memory cards are the recording media for this recorder. These memory cards are 3.3V SSFDC SmartMedia cards. TWO 16MB SmartMedia cards come with the DS-3000 Recorder. (See picture at right for SmartMedia card.)

ME-12 Noise Cancellation Microphone: Digital voice recorders provide great solutions for voice recognition applications, however background noise will sometimes cause a problem. The ME-12 plugs into your digital recorder's microphone jack for uni-directional recording in high-noise environments. It will cut down on much of the background noise and result in a more accurate transcription. AC Adapter (A-321): When preparing to record a long meeting, conference call, or deposition, using an AC Adapter is critical. An AC Adapter will allow you to record with confidence for long periods of time without carrying around extra sets of batteries. The A-321 is compatible with all Olympus DS and DM-series digital voice recorders.

USB Download Cable (CB-USB1): Download images from your digital camera to your computer at blazing speed with this USB Cable. Replacement for the USB cable that is ships with the DS 3000 Recorder.
